New Library of Congress Photograph Collection

The Library of Congress’s Prints and Photographs Online Catalog has a new collection: digitized versions of 40,000 glass negatives from the George Grantham Bain news photograph collection. The collection “documents sports events, theater, celebrities, crime, strikes, disasters, political activities including the woman suffrage campaign, conventions and public celebrations” from the 1860s-1930s. While the emphasis is on New York City, it’s a great way to see what popular life was like at that time.
